Havering Learning Disability Society
S.E.Lions is a Swimming Club for Adults with Learning Disabilities. Our swimming sessions at the Rainham Leisure Centre are from 12 noon to 1 pm where the society has the sole use of the swimming pool.
The swimming sessions are important in helping members to keep fit and for their emotional well-being. The club has an ethos of mutual support and encouragement which creates an environment for friendly and social interaction
The swimming pool is divided up to accommodate good swimmers who take up to 3 lanes doing various swimming strokes, some LD members who just like to swim at their own pace, and non-swimmers.
We need 'Spotters' to stand at the side of the pool to alert of any dangers in the water to assist with non-swimmers.
There is no shallow end at the Rainham Pool. the water is the same level all the way across
The Swimming Club has been established almost 50 years, has about 30 members, but we need new volunteers to ensure that the Swimming Club continues into the future, for the benefit of our learning disability members.
Ability to interact with adults with a learning disability and with some members an additional physical disability.
