Storeroom Volunteer HVC-1942

Havering Shopmobility Association

Havering Shopmobility provides equipment for people with limited mobility to access shops and services in Romford Town Centre on a day hire basis and longer term hire for holidays etc. We also sell disability-related equipment. 

Could you help us by providing storeroom services? 

The role requirements are to:
- Receive and process requests for equipment 
- Deliver equipment appropriate for individual customers needs and ensure it is adjusted and fit for use. 
- Log equipment usage
- Receive returned equipment, ensure it is cleaned, fit for use, stored and put on charge. 
- Maintain the storeroom areas in a clean and orderly manner
- Undertake light maintenance and adjustment of equipment within your capability and training
- Give training and instruction to new users and assess their ability and understanding
- Assist with other light manual tasks if needed
- To act as an ambassador for our services.

What skills do I need?

You must be someone friendly, helpful and courteous who is reliable and trustworthy. You should treat people with respect and dignity and be understanding of the needs of people with disabilities. 

You will need to be able to communicate quickly and effectively with other volunteers - this is important to deliver the service to the customer., You will be able to communicate verbally and in writing and be able to understand and operate our procedures. 

You should be able to work as part of a team but take responsibility for your own actions and know your limitations and be able to ask for help when appropriate. 

You should be physically capable of undertaking tasks safely.

This role required you to be somewhat physical given the nature of the role. 

We operate two shifts each day, Monday to Saturday 9:30 - 1:30pm and 1pm - 5pm. 

Volunteers work at least one 4-hour shift per week but most work two or more. 

We operate from two shops in Romford Town Centre, one in The Brewery and one in The Liberty.
