Volunteer Gardener HVC-1976

First Step

Our environment is very important to us at First Step and we take pride in being able to offer our families and visitors well kept, tranquil surroundings where they can relax. We are looking for volunteers to tend the gardens and outside areas at First Step under the direction of the Centre Manager, including lawn maintenance
The role of a volunteer Gardener would include:

• Work as part of the gardening team, liaising with the Centre Manager to ensure priority of work to be undertaken

• Weed and maintain borders, cut grass areas, prune bushes and small trees and clear leaves

• Undertake training as required for the role and take part in regular supervision

• Comply with all First Step Policies and Procedures including Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Data Protection and Equality and Diversity


What skills do I need?

DESIRED SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be physically fit and able to stand, lift, kneel, weed, mow and carry

• Experience using a wide range of gardening equipment including hand tools and lawn mower (equipment is supplied)

• An understanding of plant, bush and tree maintenance and site preparation and planting techniques would be an advantage

• Be able to recognise the common weed

• Must have ability to work around the grounds of First Step unsupervised

• Ability to work to flexibly and be able to juggle priorities

• Ability to work as part of a team and take direction

• To be friendly, reliable, organised and professional

We expect a minimum commitment of 2 - 4 hours per week, between 09:30 - -17:00
