Association Visitor Volunteer (HVC - 1987)

Motor Neurone Disease Association

This is a great caring role for someone wishing to support people and their families who have Motor Neurone Disease. 

Association Visitor Volunteers (AVV) act as the main contact for people living with MND (this includes the person with MND, their family and carer) on behalf of the Association. They keep in regular contact offering confidential emotional support and accurate information to enable people with MND to make informed choices.
We ask for at least 2-4 hours each week and commit to a minimum of 1 year to be able to enable the development of relations between the AVV and the person living with MND, spread out over 2-4 hours each week.

Once training has been completed the AVV will

- make and maintain contact regularly by phone, email or face to face visits with people living with MND
- explain the support and services the Association can offer
- explain the benefits of becoming a member
- discuss their needs and wishes regarding support from the Association
- keep accurate records and care plans
- develop and services / support

Explain to people affected by MND how the MND Association can support them
Record information following the MND Association guidelines and local protocols
Develop and maintain relationships with our local branch or group
Attend support and supervision meetings as well as development events

What skills do I need?


This role will suit you if you :
Have good listening skills and am a good communicator 

Am able to develop and maintain supportive relationships with people affected by MND

Am non-judgmental and respectful of diverse lifestyles

Understand the need for confidentiality and the importance of data protection

Am prepared to increase my understanding of MND and its impact on families

Am able to assess when extra support is needed

The time required is flexible, but we expect Association Visitors to commit to a minimum of 2 - 4 hours per week for a minimum of 1 year
